We would like to congratulate Dr Mike Short, a member of our Advisory Board, on his appointment to a new leadership role at Global Health Connector.

Dr Short, one of the UK’s most influential figures in telecoms and digital innovation, has built a distinguished career at the intersection of technology, connectivity, and public policy. His new appointment further strengthens his already substantial portfolio of advisory and academic positions, which includes serving as Chair of both the UK Telecoms Labs and the UK Telecoms Innovation Network Advisory Boards, as well as Visiting Professor at the University of Surrey and University College London.

Before entering government, Dr Short spent more than 30 years in mobile communications with Cellnet, O2 UK and the Telefónica Group. His work was instrumental in launching 2G and 3G networks, shaping international standards for 4G and 5G, and driving early innovation projects spanning Mobile TV, Smart Metering, Driverless Cars and Digital Health.

He has also held a number of senior industry leadership roles, including President of the Institution of Engineering and Technology, Chairman of the GSM Association and UK Mobile Data Association, and Board Member of Innovate UK.

Dr Short continues to contribute his extensive knowledge of telecommunications, digital transformation, and global connectivity to our Advisory Board. His new appointment further underscores the breadth of his influence and the value he brings to shaping the future of digital innovation.
