#WAAW25: Antibiotic Guardian website now available in 5 new languages

This World AMR Awareness Week, we’re proud to announce a major milestone in our collaboration with the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA): the launch of five newly translated pledge pages on the Antibiotic Guardian website.

Pledges are now available in Urdu, Punjabi, Mandarin, Polish, and Romanian - languages identified in the 2021 Census as among the most widely spoken in the UK (excluding English and Cymraeg). This expansion builds on previous UKHSA collaborations with WHO Europe and others, which delivered translations in Welsh, Turkish, Dutch, French, and German.

These new translations support the broader health inequalities and global health agenda by improving health literacy and enabling non-English speaking communities to take action. We also saw a unique opportunity to engage younger people - particularly international students, by including Mandarin, the most common first language among overseas students in the UK.

“Making AMR messaging accessible in multiple languages is a tangible step toward health equity. This collaboration demonstrates how we can work together to break down barriers and engage communities that have historically been underserved. We are proud of the progress, and excited for what comes next.” - Prof Diane Ashiru-Oredope, Lead Pharmacist, AMR, UKHSA and Lead of the Antibiotic Guardian Campaign.

The translated pages are now live at www.antibioticguardian.com: UrduRomanianPunjabiPolish and Mandarin

Next steps include knowledge mobilisation through targeted outreach and leveraging existing stakeholder networks.

We’re looking for volunteers

As we move into the next phase of this project, we’re seeking volunteers. Volunteers may help by:

  • Providing feedback on accessibility and engagement

  • Helping us evaluate impact through informal conversations or surveys

  • Sharing translated pledge links with local networks and organisations

  • Supporting outreach in schools, universities, and community centres

If you’re interested in getting involved, fill out this form.
